USA
NIST Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Framework (2023)

About

Developed by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology, the Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Framework (NIST AI RMF) is a non-mandatory, adaptable model designed to help all types of organisations to identify, assess, measure and manage AI risks.

The framework is built around four interconnected, iterative functions, applicable throughout the AI system life cycle: govern, map, measure and manage. As a risk-based approach, the framework and its tools promote transparency, continuous improvement and accountability.

Under the Trump presidency, the NIST’s framework is not required for federal agencies, and its influence on national AI governance has been reduced. However, it is still available as a voluntary resource and industry benchmark.
