European Union
Artificial Intelligence Act (2024)

About

The European Union Artificial Intelligence Act (2024) (EU AI Act) is the world’s first legislative framework for AI. It aims to ensure the development and use of trustworthy, human-centric and safe AI across the (EU).

It employs a risk-based approach that categorises AI systems on a scale of unacceptable, high, limited or minimal risk. Unacceptable AI uses are banned, and there are strict requirements imposed on high risk AI systems.

The Act emphasises proportionality, safety and individual rights while providing support for innovation. Obligations are imposed on the providers and users of AI systems, both in the EU and for  suppliers of AI systems to the EU market.
