OECD AI Principles (2019)

About

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) AI Principles (2019; updated 2024) is an intergovernmental agreement on guidelines for the responsible development and implementation of AI systems.

The OECD AI Principles are comprised of five value-based principles and five policy recommendations. The principles aim to promote trustworthy, human-centric and innovative AI not only through core values, but with practical suggestions and tools, such as the OECD Framework for the Classification of AI systems.

The principles are designed to be flexible and adaptable to rapid technological change. Although non-binding, the OECD AI Principles are recognised as a blueprint for national and international AI policy and governance.
